Underlayment/ Ice&Water Shield
A 15# underlayment is used for a normal shingle roof, a 30# underlayment is used for a cedar roof, and a 43# underlayment is used for a flat roof.
Note: There have been advances in underlayment in recent years, primarily ice and water shield. This is not an inexpensive material, however it is a good preventative measure against ice damming and leaks in the winter. A separate cost for ice-shield is given on tear-off estimates. This cannot be installed on re-roofs because it is made to adhere to the wood decking. It has a plastic top and a sticky membrane on the bottom which seals around nail holes and prevents ice and water penetration 3 feet up from the roof edge. Many people have us install 2 courses or 6 feet up from the edge of the roof.
There have also been advances in a 15# underlayment replacement. It is a TyvecŪ like material. Ask us about it if you are interested.

Flat Roofing
Modified Bitumen comes in granulated colors and smooth surface, which can be coated with an elastomeric roof coating or left plain black. This is the most commonly used material for properly drained flat roofs. It is heat welded and creates a one piece water-tight roof. EPDM rubber is the longest-lasting, most durable type of flat roof used today. Guaranteed for 20 years, it comes in large 10- 20 foot sheets and is fully adhered to the roof surface.
Torch Applied Roofing Membranes-
RUBBEROID® Torch-Applied Modified Bitumen Membranes
Description
Ruberoid torch-applied membranes are tough, resilient modified bitumen membranes manufactured to stringent GAF Materials Corporation specifications. Their core is a strong, resilient, non-woven polyester mat that is coated with weather resistant, polymer-modified asphalt. "FR"-designated membranes are coated with an inherently fire retardant polymer-modified asphalt. RUBEROID torch-applied membranes are designed for new roofing and reroofing applications as well as construction of flashings. They are also an ideal product for the repair of built-up roofing systems. Advantages include:
· Cost effective-the installed cost of RUBEROID torch-applied membranes is less than most single-ply systems on the market today.
· Resilient-special polyester mat core allows it to resist splits and tears due to its pliability and elongation characteristics.
· Durable-specially formulated APP-modified asphalt gives RUBEROID torch-applied membranes lasting performance.
· Backed by GAF Materials Corporation, a company with over 100 years in the roofing business.Cedar Roofing

Looking at other roofs in the area would be a good start. Once you've got an idea of a color you might want to visit one of our suppliers, ABC or Builders Aluminum (located 8/10's of a mile east of Route 59 South off of Butterfield Rd -or route 56- 2 blocks on Rockwell St.) , for more ideas of certain colors and shingle styles. Once you've narrowed your colors down give us a call or e-mail us and tell us what color(s) you are interested in, or request that some sample boards be brought to your home. We will do our best to drop off samples of the general color and shingle style (3-tab, architectural, or other). Our price quotes on your estimate are given with shingle brands and colors available from our suppliers, however, any brand or color from any home store can also be used. If a particular shingle is desired that is priced considerably more than our quoted price, a separate upgrade price will be given.

At the top right you can choose between "architectural" or "traditional"= (3-tab shingles). (Make sure to choose from "Cambridge East" colors for the architectural)
Our installers have worked for us for many years and take pride in their work. You can count on a completely professional installation. We also use high quality materials. Roofs are loaded by us after being properly prepared and we do not leave jobs open to the weather.
Our tear-off crew is fast and thorough. Job sites are kept clean and all debris is removed at the end of each work day. We use our own dump trucks for removal of debris. Most other roofers use heavy dumpsters, which block the driveway for several days and can damage driveways and sidewalks.
